Hiring an Interior Designer: How does it work?
Not all Designers work the same. At JM Interiors, first there is an introductory phone call to help us evaluate your project and whether we may be of help. If so we will set up a convenient time for a consultation and walk through your home or business, and talk about any specific needs and timing of your project. No actual design is done in this meeting, just an evaluation of the project and scope of work. You can review our portfolio, and learn more about specific projects in the portfolio. At the conclusion of the meeting, a design fee proposal and contract will be sent to you for review and acceptance.

What do you charge?
We maintain competitive design fees. There are a few ways that we charge but our design fee will typically have a combination of a fixed fee and hourly estimates. A retainer is required before any work is started. In addition to the design fee, we offer options when it comes to purchasing technology (3D renderings, CAD drawings, product, and furnishings). In most cases we offer an exclusive trade discount off of the retail price of product sold.

Do you offer Packages?
Although most clients opt for the discounted hourly rate, we offer different packages that are dependent on the level you wish to take your project. If you have a specific design fee budget in mind, we are more than happy to prepare a proposal, stating what we can offer, keeping within your budget.

Where do you purchase your furniture?
We purchase product from a variety of sources. We also use local stores, trade showrooms, and retail locations, as well as online and catalogue retailers. If you have sources that you prefer to work with, we are more than happy to assist in the selection. We also work with local custom upholstery and drapery workrooms. On special order items we receive exclusive trade discounts of up to 50% off retail prices . The savings can sometimes be higher than the design fees charged. Special orders will typically take 6-8 weeks before delivery however payment is due prior to receiving the order.

Should I use your Contractor and Architect?
It’s not necessary. We do the creative design.  We are more than happy to refer you to a local Contractor that we’ve used in the past. You don’t pay us for construction related labor, that is between you and your Contractor.

Do I have to make purchases through you?
No. You are welcome to make any purchases on your own. Many clients chose to purchase through JM Interiors because of the savings we pass along to you.

What is included in the design concepts?
Initial concepts are midpoint designs that are typically 50%-60% complete. They show you the major furnishings, color scheme, and general direction the interior designer has in mind for your space. You may opt for optional 3D renderings for better visualization. This is total up to you. Your feedback is essential to get to the final design. Immediately after receiving your input during a followup meeting we get back to work to complete your final design plan.

What is the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator?
Interior decorators typically focus on the decorative elements of a home, such as: paint color, furniture, décor, window treatments, bedding etc. Interior designers do this, and more. Interior Designers like JM Interiors have formal education and training. An interior designer should have knowledge of interior architecture principals, drafting skills, general building code guidelines, local partnerships with contractors, project management experience, and more.

What experience do you have?
Jeanne Dudugjian, CEO at JM Interiors has worked on both residential and commercial interior design projects nationally, for over 25 years with a particular focus in Orange County, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, Nevada. After studying at Interior Designers Institute, Jeanne honed her craft while working for several regional design firms. Since then she has led projects ranging from new construction and complete renovations, to single room refreshes.

How long will our project take?
This will vary per project. A typical kitchen or bathroom remodel may take up to 2 weeks to design. A full renovation design can take up to 3 weeks to design, and a few weeks to months to receive and install all product and furniture.
